RE: removing iac
Why in the name of GOD would you want to delete that item? I would serve no advantate at all. A restictor can sometimes be used to moderate a poor idle...but removing it is just as rediculous as anything I've heard. Majority of the time a restrictor plate is used to 'bandaid' another problem in the systme like a vac leak or EGR issue that has not be rectified...unmetered air causes idle instability and the plate simply restricts flow to allow the IAC to stabalize the idle a touch better. More often than not they don't work properly simply because the true cause is not corrected and the plate is unable to assist as it was designed.

RE: removing iac
ok Andy this is what I did and solved the issue 100%
Locate your IAC which will be on the passenger side of the car and is attached to the throttle body.
Unplug the wire that goes to the IAC motor and remove the two 8mm bolts.
Get a piece of sheet metal around 0.027†thick. You can use steel or aluminum it doesn’t matter
Using your old gasket trace it onto the piece of sheet metal. Trace all of the holes as well.
Cut it out with a pair of tin snips.
File down the sides so there is no sharp edges.
Drill out the holes you traced. The one big hole you will want to drill with a 5/8†drill bit. The other hole you will want to make a small hole. Start with a 5/16†(drill in the center) drill bit and keep moving up if it is hard to start cold.
File down those holes as well so there are no sharp pieces.
Put the plate on so that the small hole is facing towards the passenger side.
Put the new plate on first and then the gasket. The gasket should be on the throttle body and the plate should be against the IAC.
Put the two 8mm bolts back in and tighten to spec. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN
Connect the wire back to the IAC
Start the car up.
If the car doesn’t start take the IAC back off and do the whole process again using the same plate, just make the hole bigger. Keep doing this until the car idles nicely and RPMS drop quickly.

RE: removing iac
i am doing it because mine is shot and i dont feel like spending alot of money to replace it. i want to find out if that is what is making my throttle body whistle. i have been on here alot to get ideas for what is causing the whistling in my throttle body. On mustangsunlimited.com they said if you are getting a whistle then your iac needs to be replaced. they were selling them for 121.00 and i dont want to spend that kind of money. so if people are questioning me thats why i am doing this.
