Default aod shift question important

Ok so we got a 5,0 88 GT HO mustang with the aod transmission and the tranny was bad so we rebuilt it completely with a master rebuild kit and a shift kit from transgo. The clutches were gonneee.

Anyway when we drive it around now and you have it in D or overdriveit will shift like at 1500-1800 from 1-2 and right in to third like not even a second. Is this normal. Its gotten better through driving it though. But when you punsh it a little it wont get over 2500-3000rpm max. before it shifts into the next gear its like instead of doing like kickdown and go down a gear it will go up a gear real funny for me.(Sorry, but I usually drive camaros, but I love that 88 GT) So you could say it wont go into the higher rpm range. Yes I already adjusted the TV cable on it that is reponsible for kickdown like they said in the book.

I just thought I would ask if someone has the same problem or what its doing.
I thought about the 2-3 accumulator maybe sticking.

Well like I said valvebody, whole tranny has been rebuild and its got the tranny cooler installed to.

She shifts from 1-2 good and from 3-4 good but 2-3 is just real quick when nop gas or stepping on it a little.

Any help is appreciated. I will change the tranny fluid next week again because when we took the tranny apart it was so nasty (of course everything was cleaned very good before installation).

I dont really feel like stepping on her either and ripping the tranny you know.

Not sure it would solve your problems, but a few things to think about...

If the fluid was garbage before, then you probably want to do a good full tranny flush and not just a fluid change. That made a HUGE difference in my AODE. It cured my shifting problems and shudder problems. Second, make sure there is actualyl enough fluid in there. it sounds stuipd and obvious but I've seen it overlooked before. Also, make sure the shift kit is properly installed and nothing popped or slipped out of place.

All AOD's do that. You have to do the 1-d-1 shufle to hold second. Its not good for the tranny but it works or get a new vb.

my aod is a piece of crap and does wierd things that are the topic of another thread, but it also shifts through 2nd really quickly like you say yours does. for the longest time (before i new anything about the car) I actually thought it was a 2 speed with an overdrive, but when I floor it at the right moment I can get it to stay in 2nd for a little while more. so it does happen to others but I wouldn't take my crappy transmission as an example of what it should do.

The AOD would still do that with a shift kit? I thought that the TransGo kit he installed would havehelped with that problem. It also sounds like it stays in second gear for less than 1 sec. Are they really that bad? I never realized how crappy they were. Mine is an AODE so it's a completely different setup.

It's not supposed to perform like that. How did you go about setting your TV cable pressure?
