im looking into getting the DSS 331 super pro bullet shortblock in february. they say it is good for 650hp. it still uses a factory 5.0 block, and they say with theyre support system that it will support 650hp. ive seen the horror of a high hp 302 and the split down the center, but they swear by theres.what are your guys thoughts on this shortblock?

+1 on woody
and yes a stock block will hold 550-600rwhp, but everytime you floor it
it will be even money flip of a coin on whether or not it will blow up.
might last for years and years .......... might blow up 3rd time ......... no gaurantees

i saw one of their ads in a magazine and i gotta wonder what all these steps are they take in race prepping a block. i mean, they were claiming a HP boost JUST from the way they prepare them.
anyone got any ideas as to how you make a stock 302 block generate more HP? cause i sure as hell dont. you can machine them to make them stronger, you can machine them to make them more reliable, but how do you machine them to make more power? (and zero decking doesnt count)

Have you looked into getting a 331 or 347 based on the new Boss block? Also Ford has some really good crate motors that will allow you to make the horsepower that you are looking for. I currently have a DSS 306 but I have had tuning issues with the car. I bought it back in 99 and the car has set ever since then. When I get out of Iraq I am going to get it back running again although I am thinking of going with a Boss stroked motor. Waiting to see what kind of price they are going to put on the 331 long block from Ford.
