yeah i ground mine down in about two seconds with my grinder.
but if you just have a file, it might take you a while....not a very complicated "mod"
And IMO you should just go with a 3g....I bought a 200amp one on ebay for like 140 and it came with all the wiring I needed. Also, you will be able to get rid of the "fire hazardous plug" from the old alt.
