Default Broken crank?

I am looking at picking up an 87 GT that has a broken crank. He has a new crank for it just needs to be installed. How hard is this job and what is involved? He asking $1000 for the car and I might get it cheaper yet.

not always, sometimes the cranks do snap without damaging other things, but there is a good chance at a damaged main journal with means the block would need aline hone or may simply be toasted.

The body has some rust on the quarters around the wheel wells and under the rear glass. If there is that many potential complications then I am not going to bother. Thanks everyone. I was wanting to know if it was an easy fix or not.

Replacing a crank is easy as pie if you have the proper tools. And if you were planning on doing with the engine out of the car. Also, it could have done some other damage inside . . .

In the original engine in my 91, the crank walked and snapped while the engine was at idle, and it cracked the number 1 and number 5 cylinders all the way up. Not saying that this is what always happens, but expect that if the crank broke at any RPM, there will probably be a bit of damage.
