Default 351w heads question

Hey.. I have a friend that is giving me a set of Early 351w heads.... They need to be re-done..... Any idea what it wold cost to refresh the heads? new valves/springs/guides etc.... and what would the gain be if any over the fresh E7 heads that are on there?

Thanks

William

gains would be similar as those of a set of GT40's. you'd want to knock down the bumps in the exhaust ports before putting em on.

if you are going for cheap you could use the springs and retainers from your E7's if your wanting something thats not 40 years old - the valves could be reused if they arent beat up but i would replace at least the exhausts. the MAIN thing is you would need to get hardened ex seats installed so the heads will work with unleaded gas.

yup +1 thats what you "need"

but, also if your getting some work done, do yourself a favor and have the exhaust ports ported a bit, doesn't have to be major.... alittle goes a long way here. clean up the intakes a bit, and you should be happy for relatively cheap

if you were to do them right and if they needed any valve seat or guide work then by the time you get done adding springs locks, retainers and port work and machine shop fee's ..you probably could put a decent chunk of that money towards a set of aluminum heads

150.00 - 250.00 for valve job and resurface
80.00 - 160.00 for seats to be installed
new valves depend on which ones you buy. stay away from manley, the best bang for your buck are the lower end ferrea's.
