Default Gutted the cats and.....

Hello Everybody,
I can't remember if I have posted on here yet, but I have been a reader for about over a year. I have a Bone Stock 1988 5.0 GT. 8LD Computer, 5-spd. I had been wanting to get rid of the cats cause of some of the reading I have been doing.

Well today, I unbolted everything, used my pursuasion tool(hammer) and a pry bar to beat the life out of the internals of the cats. I succeeded, bolted everything back up, and love the way it sounds. The pipes still arent bolted at the collector after the 2nd pair of cats. To blow everything out of them and not into the mufflers. Anyway I noticed that my CHECK ENGINE light did not come on. I was wondering if this was normal or is there something going on. My understanding was that once you gut the cats, the O2 sensors would kick on the check engine light. Am I correct? PLEASE let me know.

Thanks,

K so i'm planning on doing the same thing this summer. My question is will it still pass emmisions. It's pretty well tuned, I have a 347 stroker, powerdyne supercharged, trick flow upper and lower, electric fan, aluminum heads... and the list goes on. Bottom line is the car runs pretty clean, but will it pass emissions without the cats?

so what is the point to the O2 sensors right after the first set of cats if they can't tell the difference whether or not the cats are doing there job?

OBD 1 cars dont have them, the second pair is junk on cars that have em.

You should replace your O2 sensors with NEW ones for improved performance and better mileage.
