Default no MAF on my 87.. should i convert?

ill be getting an 87LX coupewith an 88 GT engine and some other upgrades. the car doesnt have the MAF set up yet and i was wondering if it was a good thing to convert it. i was thinking no because i can just get a short ram intake and stuff. also a question about upgrades..

as of now, the car has 90K on the engine, 257 miles on the tranny which was rebuilt with 3.73s not long ago. it has an aluminum ford racing drive shaft, ford racing plug wires, rebuilt posi, and a flowmaster exhaust..

i would like to get an O/R H-Pipe and trick flow intake manifolds with a BBK 70mm throttle body. i hear that the H-Pipes can bolt on and off for emissions testingso that would be good. i can pickup the intakes andTB from a friend for cheapso do you think these upgrades would give me a noticeable difference inpower?its already pretty fastcompared to my 5.0thunderbird but i can get the parts cheap so i figured why not.

Speed density can support up to 300hp w/o issues, after that I thinkyou have to either upgrade your SD computer or convert to mass air. You probably want to ask this in the SD section for more accurate info.

You won't gain a whole lot with the intake and TB alone, better off towait and do heads and/or cam along with it.

i'd maf it, it'd make it easier since the computer could read the ammout of air thats coming into the engine a little better. and that sounds like a decent setup, but you wont notice "alot" of power increase till you upgrade the heads and cam alog with the intake like you planned on getting. cause you can be allowing as much air to hit the vavles on those stock heads but they will only let so much in, and also i believe the trick flow is made for a 75 mm so it's better to match them and not "bottle neck" your intake

i just was asking the same question and i decided to convert mine to MAF bro...easier to tune and it opens you up to a whole lot of other options for the car

For the parts you listed you can stay with s/d. I've got s/d on my 87 gt and have had NO idle or surging problems.
