I'm not sure about the earlier comment about a 347 having thin walls compared to a 331, aren't they both .030 over???. Anyways, choose whichever ci you want. People here speak from experience, and are just trying to be helpfull. If you contact Jay over at CI, he'll also tell you to never go 331, but go 347 (he never explained to me why?). I do agree with stanguy306, if your bottom end is in good shape, you can spend your money buying bolt on's, and have a very fast car, then save for the new short block. Good luck with your project keep us posted as to what you end up doing.

Yes, they are both .030 over. That entire post was full of misinformation.

pfsh 331 for the win
347's burn oil and will wear out before a 331, the 331 is a much more reliable motor espceially if it's a dd car plus you get a better rod angle so you get more revs
trust me i have one and i LOVE it, i would never go 347, i personally amnot a fan of THIN walls or oil burning
Misinformation........

ORIGINAL: redpony88

dont bully someone into something YOU dont even have done.....
if he wants a 331 LEAVE IT ALONE!!!! everyone doesnt have to do what you want them to do, it's his car NOT yours! i hated it when someone tried to tell me to get a 347 i had to tell him about 10 times i was NOT going 347 i just wanted my 331
Nobody is bullying him into doing anything he doesn't want to pay for, but you are providing flaky information + using the "fear of engine failure" to try to make a null point. , have YOU done a 347?..... the correct way, of course.

ORIGINAL: grnstang

thanks red pony 88...i'm going for the 331 because it is my daily driver in the summer. i will let you guys know what i decide to go with, thank you!!
Humble suggestion...... since you will be spending some of your hard earned dough in an stroker, really suggest you look into the correct information for ANY of the alternatives at your disposal. Selecting any over the other, which will cost ± the same, with the wrong information, might cause you don't optimize your investment. I'm not in any way forcing or shoving the 347 alternative, but your explanation above is flawed...... what is so wrong about a 347 setup as a daily driver? ..... Again, it's YCYDYP (Your Car Your Dough Your Prerogative) ....... [sm=signs003.gif]

look guys, i didnt read every pissing match post that was made.
i was in the same shoe as the origional poster. i went 331 b/c i heard of the oil burning and short life due to extra stroke.
took some time and talking to very respected names that i learned that the 347 has just a good of reputation as the 331 as far as oil consuption, reliability and life span.
my 331 has the same pistons as a 347, no oil burning.
how long do you think a motor that sees 6k rpms quite often going to last before it needs some maintance to keep it running top notch? rings and bearings and your almost good as new.
a 351 has more stroke than a 347, they last a long time.
look, i understand if you are still weary about the 347 vs the 331. just my 2 cents, i would have built a 347 instead if i could do it again.

either motor will be fun.

I'd suggest going with AFR 165's or something along that linewith a decent cam, the bbk 70mm TBshould work well with the Trickflow intake.while your at it I'd boost up ur fuel supply....little bigger fuel pump w/ some 24# injectors. And I am working on building a 331 too, so dont sweat what everybody is saying Like Redpony88 said "Its your car" Best of luck

This guy is starting a build, a N/A build,a N/Anewcomer mistake build.

We know he wants the most power and a reliable engine for a daily driver.

Plenty of 331 owners, have wish they went 347 and we want to make sure he is happy, has a reliable motorand not touching this engine for at least another 10+ years.

So while the engine is out, thats the time to consider that option.

With modern technology, you'll need every cube to keep up, there is no replacement for displacement.

Ive been through several 331 setups personally
and will never go back.

I don't think it's fair to assume he wants the "most power" for a daily driver. There are plenty of people out there that know their limitations of what they can and cannot safely handle. He will not be the first nor the last person to spend an equal amount of money to knowingly build a smaller, weaker motor with less performance. If he just wants to pick on the N/A 306 guys, he's doing the right thing.

There is a time and a place for a 306.

There is a time and a place for a 331.

There is a time and a place for a 347.

Not all stroker kits are $725. If you start throwing out nicer forged pistons, rod bolt upgrades, dish or dome pistons (not FT), then it can get up there.

If I was to build an N/A engine, I would go 4.125" bore x 3.400" (typical 347 crankshaft) stroke.

There is some basis to rod ratio, but any of the engines above is not anything to worry about in consideration to the R/S ratio.

I see misinformation and off-topic junk on both sides of this argument so far.

Good Luck!
