Whenever most people rebuild an engine that they're trying to make stronger they usually bore it out since the opportunity is there, and yes engine boring does help with hp, because it increases your cubic inches.

i would go 30 over, or .030" ... it will add about 5ci and still have very stong cylinder walls

Correct, boring does not add a significant amount of displacement, but it can have a big impact on cylinder wall strength and the cooling efficiency of the engine. Go with smallest amount of overbore that will clean and straighten the cylinders.

just have it bored enough to clean up the wall....you can get .10 over pistons.....going 30 over might give you 10 hp.....while you have the block take it to a car wash or what ever and use a high pressure wash......pull out all the freeze plugs etc......have the block checked out for cracks etc before you put any machine work in it....remember you have to have the pistons before you bore and know what rings your using so you machinist knows what stone to finish the bores.....

.030 should be good. have em cut it 20, check if the walls are good, and go as far as they need to to get the walls perf
