Wouldn't it be better to run a plastic intake system versus a chrome tube? I know when I ran my ebay CAI(chrome) it was extremely hot to the touch after being driven. The Vortech tube(plastic) however is warm but not hot after being driven. I am sure the gain from switching from chrome to plastic would be negligible, but it's just a thought.

this is the $70 kit from american muscle
http://www.americanmuscle.com/50liairinkit.html

not sure if that filter is worth anything......

http://www.americanmuscle.com/bbk-co...ake-86-93.html

the BBK is $150-160, but if you think about it.

if i buy the cheap CAI, and then buy a K&N or BBK filter, to make sure i have a quality filter, id be spending just as much.........

i think BBK it is!

I've never seen a problem with the looks on my brothers 92. Sometimes it doesn't get cleaned for months and 5 mins of work and its all bling bling again lol.

The only advantage to the underhood air filter is the size of itand the straighter shot into the intake. It allows more air to have the chance to enter the intake with a higher velocity. The fender mount will definitly bring in cooler air. Velocity is a good thing to have but that or the cooler air are probably gonna bring pretty much the same numbers on the dyno. Google the dyno numbers and see what you can find with it.

i see what your saying projectresto83.

but even if the underhood suck's in more air i think of it this way.

my filter itself is at 150-160*, with the 180*+ radiator hose sitting onto its not hard to belive that the air coming from that side of the filter is 150-180*

the side to the fender is prob sucking in colder air 100-150*

while if the filter was in the fender, it would be outside air temp, or colder, so the current condition's it would be 60-70* air........... pretty big difference.

The reason that the fender CAI gets hot is because of the inlet tube being heated by the heat from the engine/header. Like said before plastic would allow for cooler temps but I have also seen some use the heat wrap stuff used on exhausts.

If you really want to feel some difference on the highway with one you can make yourself a ram air system and make a vent that leads air from under the front of the fender toward the filter in the fender. I have thought about doing this to my 98.
