Default Exhaust Question

Looking at catalogs I see exhaust systems for 87-93 or 86-93. And not many 79-93. So do the 86/97-93 exhaust systems work too for my 84 gt350?

Yes they will but you would need to get supporting headers and trans cross member since yours has a single hump for the exhaust and later have a double hump for true dual exhaustt

Yes....You can get an 86 GT or 87-93 LX and convert your car to dual exhaust...you will need to get the proper exhaust hanger as well for the passanger side...I would also get some kind of H-pipe, catted or un-catted your choice, double hump cross member, & convert to a true dual exhaust system...

If you wanted to get a stock replacement, goto MustangsUnlimited or CJ Pony Parts...

Like said before

double hump crossmember
upgrade to at least stock 87-93 headers (to be sure of no leaks at the headers)
passenger side hangers for muffler and tail pipe
full exhaust system

www.latemodelrestoration.com has everything you will need at good prices

**Also if you are planning on running tail pipes you have to be carefull of the brake line that runs from the body to the rearend. If I remember correctly 86 GT's also came with a 7.5 rear and the rear line was on the side not in the center like the 8.8. This is something that can be gotten away with leaving but you have to be very careful when hooking up the tail pipes to leave enough clearance between the two. If you are going to run dumps then no big deal.

Thanks guys. I found out that my car already as a double hump cross member. How much clearance do you need for headers in the engine bay?

There is plentyof room for shorty headers. Equal lengths make it a tight fit for changing plugs and long tubes are a pain to install without the lift or a hoist to lift up the engine to drop them in. Get a set of FRPP stainless or BBK ceramics and you will be set. Don't get headers from MAC I have heard bad things about them. But the rest of there exhaust stuff is great. If you don't have the cash for a aftermarket set go to the junk yard or craigslist and find a set of stock 87-93 headers and they will help you out until you can get a good set. That is if you don't already have a set on there. Get a pic up of your engine bay and lets see what you have.

I can't tell but it looks like you have regular exhaust manifolds. All four exhaust ports fall in line into one tube and then go into the collector as one. On headers, all four exhaust ports have seperate tubes and meet at the collector.....just for the info.

yeah i do have manifold. I believe everything engine wise is completely stock. the air filter cover is not the original, its not the HO. But the exhaust pipes are rusted to the point where there is a good sized hole near the front. So I'm just replacing from the headers back. And gonna have dumps.

Edit: I'll try to get a better view from the top.
