Default Stroker Motor Question

There is a local guy who listed his 331 short block for sale on Craigslist, he said he just got laid off and selling everything, it was on the stand fresh from the machine shop but some things didn't jive, I'm not sure if this guy just didn't know a whole lot about engines and is the type that just brings his stuff to a shop and says "Do it" but he said it was a comepletely forged Probe stroker kit (The pan was on so didn't see the crank and rods) but the pistons were definitely Probe forged, he said they were dished pistons but when I asked about compression ratio's with 60 CC heads he said it would be about 9.7 to 1, now on Probes web site none of their kits have ratio's anywhere close with that kind of piston? All their dished pistons are for blower apps and have real low CR's. Lastly I asked him if the balancer was 50oz or 28oz, he said it was 50...but aren't all stroker kits balanced for 28oz??? Any help you guys could offer would be appreciated. the price is right but if I'm not getting what is advertised I may have to pass.

stroker kits can be sold 50 oz balance but it's rare..most are 28......as far as it being dished, you'd have to know what dish piston be bought/volumne....and as far as it being a stroker, you'd need to pull the pan and see if any part numbers are visible or ask for proof of a reciept to verify his purchase

The easiest way to find out if hes legit is simply ask for the part number of the piston, they are machined in the top of each piston. 331-347 are specific and the part number will tell you this. Like 12352-030, this number will also tell you if its a flat or dished. A 10666 is a 331-347 flat piston part number

when he says dished he may mean thay they have as small as an 8cc dish , some piston catalogs will list the valve relief cut as a dish even tho its a small amount so in the dish catagory it may read -4cc dish and some one would think its a dished piston..but honestly get a PN or SN

OK, got the PN off the top of the pistons and it is 12352-STD, I looked them up on Probes web site and they are Reverse Dome SRS Forged Pistons and his compression ratio's he told me were wrong as the web site says 9.10 to 1 with a 58 CC head and 8.82 with 61 CC heads, not bad I'm probably gonna get 60 CC AFR heads so I'll be right around 9 to 1 which leaves me open to charging later on down the line.

ya hes got a 14cc dish wich is plenty for a blower setup, just be careful with the assembly maybe even consider doing a re-assembly so you know its not fudged together, also with that 331 and a blower you can easily surpass the limits of the stock block, at 10psi my 331 is making 582 rwhp at 5,800 feet above sea level, so if you have the money a dart block maybe a good investment i wish i had the money for a dart block i really want to see 600-700 rwhp but thats just me
