Default noise

unless its just in my head, I seem to hear a funny sounding low noise coming from the back of the car, hard to describe it, but is it possibly the rear diff?

what would cause noise from back there? worn bearings? worn clutches in the T-lock? bad ring n pinion? unless its just an airleak ( I have so many of those its not even funny... between the loudness of the exhaust, you can barely hold a conversation on the phone in that car... haha

I mean, I would love to toss 3:73s back there (who wouldnt), but I lacks the monies...

I dont beat on the car at all, I baby it cuz I cant afford to break anything right now, and I cant afford the ticket when John Q Law happens to be hiding around the bend...

What kind of noise is it? Is it like a humming noise, such as the pump? Or is it a bumping noise as if something is rocking back and forth and hitting another part? Or is it like a knocking noise, as if something isn't fastened internally in the rear and it's got parts hitting each other inside?

I have the same grinding noise from the back. Took it to a shop and they said it was my bearings/pinions. I didnt understand much what he said, but he said the parts came in a kit and it would cost me about $1300 in parts and $200-300 labor to fix.

I had the rotor/pads replaced and still have the noise.

What do you think? I am getting second opinion at another shop.

1300 dollars in parts??? hoorah....

I was assuming it is prolly something in the diff, like my trac lock wearing out... from what I can tell, it looks like it was never ever popped open, god only knows how nasty the fluid is... after 131,000 miles.... damn...

the problem is, its so faint, and my car is so loud while cruising, (airleaks, loud exhaust...the lack of a steel roof....) its hard to make out if its a grind or a rub.... could always have someone sit in the backseat with their ear to the seat bottom and try to make it out possibly....

if it ever goes out, then some 3:73s a track lock rebuild and somebetter axles may be in order... hahah
