Thanks for the info guys. I hope I can swap the unit out myself. I don't wanna pay somebody to do it.

Just get the unit rebuilt using a Cobra T-lok carbon clutch discs

http://www.latemodelrestoration.com/...0%201&comp=LRS

same ones used in terminators and gt-500s

I would just rebuild the unit myself. What I don't see people telling you is if you swap to a new unit, you need to install new carrier bearings (it is possible to use the old bearings if you get them off without damaging them), either way you will have to press the bearings on the new unit, and then install it and check the backlash, and adjust with shims if needed (a lot more work). If you rebuild the old unit, you can buy the carbon fiber clutches for less than $120, no bearings, no press, no backlash adjustment, and it will work just as good as the new unit you are looking at buying. Some people will tell you you don't need to check/re-set backlash when you install a new carrier, and some will tell you they've just bolted the new one in with no problems. There's no doubt that some of these people get lucky, but checking/adjusting backlash is the proper thing to do after installing a new carrier, They're not all the same.

Thanks FLcracker that was the info I was looking for. I just got the new motor going and it sucks to hammer the throttle and roast one wheel.

So you are saying its EASIER to rebuild my current trac lock than to just install new.

I didnt have any idea what all was involved in changing it out.

i too would say just replace the clutch packs with carbon fiber ones. when we changed my gear i bought the rebuild kit and it seriously took like 5 minutes to put the new ones in..granted that was with everything out for the swap. but i still would save the money and just rebuild it

rebuliding it is easier and faster, and if you go with a new locker of some kind and have never set up a rearend before you could end up with a whine or other gear noise if its not right
