RE: $700 for used gt-40 heads?
I wouldn't buy a set of heads "sight unseen" regardless if they were GT-40, stock, AFR...doesn't matter. I would first want to inspect them off the engine and then determine what they were worth.
I had my stock 351w heads ported, polished with 1.94, 1.60 valves, springs, retainers, locks, keepers, seals...you name it, for $700
In retrospect, I should have saved a few more dollars and bought a set of AFR heads. I suggest you do the same.
So, yes, $700 seems a little salty for stock GT-40 heads that are used and you don't know that actual comdition of them besides what he tells you.

For example, i just bought a set of gt-40 iron heads off a ford crate engine, not used, new heads. They were set up for roller rockers, had arp studs and girdles. I paid 450 locally...I wouldnt pay a penny over 500 for used heads like that

i would just keep saving your money, i saved for a little over a year and bought the whole trickflow street heat package brand new. it was definatly worth it. i dont have to worry about some used a$$ parts causing problems. if you cant afford what you want right now just keep saving and researching information about the parts you want. i have seen people selling some busted parts before like cracked heads that have been welded on. definatly whatever you buy i would say go with new.
