a couple months ago i bought a 93 hatch and the previous owner took the belt tensioner off and jimmy rigged the alternator so a smaller belt would fit on. when i got it i fixed it and put a tensioner on it with a new belt. it was hard to find a belt that would fit but i found one. when i put the new belt on and when the tensioner pushes down on the belt, it and almost touches on it self. now it has stretched to where its rubbing. is there any way i can get rid of the belt tensioner and use something else?

what all accessories are still on the car?? sounds like something like the smog pump has been eliminated??

yeah it has alt and power steering. smog and a/c is out of it
