Question 1994 Mustang GT cam issue?

I have a 1994 Mustang 5.0 that has a "rocker knock." The local mechanic shops have told me it is because I have a bad cam. They say the motor is still very strong, but it needs a new cam. I'm mechanically retarded and would like to know what any of this means or if I am to believe that this is something that would cause a "rocker knock" or if they are trying to just get me to pay money for something that may not fix it.

Thanks,
Andrew

if the cam lobes are worn out, it is possible but you'd have to see noticable wear on the lobe to confirm such and without tearing the motor apart to check/view it's a guess on their part, it is possible it may have a bad lifter and not cam, ask them how they confirmed such???? I just did a 94 that had a wiped cam and it was obvious!!!!
