Default Vacuum leak?

When I am cruising, especially next to a barrier, it sounds like I have an exhaust leak (clicking air noise). The exhaust shop says I dont have a leak. I think it may be a vacuum leak, but I can't find the damn thing when the car is idling or sitting in the driveway. The car also has a suttering problem, which this may be why. I am also replacing the MAF to rule that out too. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Vacum leaks do not make a click, nail in tire type noise? Speach therapy for a Mustang or more like a missing cylinder. At end of KOER test enter the cylinder balance test.

click is exhaust not vacuum.. vaucuum would be easy to find w. carb cleaner. If you have not found it yet, it is probably not there. It is very difficult to help n e more w/o being in the car. Exhaust leaks are pretty easy to find as well. Get under the car while it is running and listen for it. If u get close, put ur hand around the flange or whatever and feel for the exhaust escaping... also, have someone cover the tailpipes. This will greatly increase back pressure and if u have an exhaust leak it will surely show itself.

Never thought of that, thanks. Will check exhaust again.

I tried it, can't find a leak anywhere, but can still hear the clicking noise. I am dumbfounded.

Lifter noise? Stethoscope $5. Determined to be exhaust leak, try the following. Take some dexron Transmission fluid or 5-20 engine oil and introduce through vacum port. Watch for smoke at leak.

Well, very reputable exhaust shop says it isn't an exhaust leak. He says it sounds mechanical. Maybe lifters? It is a clicking noise, driver side, that increases with RPMs.

If it is lifter problems, could that cause a hesitation problem intermittently?

Use a small vacum port. Follow the red plastic vacum line from fuel pressure regulator(on fuel rail passenger side) to intake manifold. Where it hooks is the vacum port. There are several small and large ports on intake. Put a piece of vacum line into dexron and other end to port. Will not need to leave it in fluid very long. The dexron will be burned and smoke like crazy(will go away). During this smoke time you should be able to find any leak.
