Temp Gauge continues to read when disconnected
Here's the issue. Just completed an engine rebuild. The first time I turned the key (not to start the car) the temp gauge went immediately to middle. I didn't think too much about it at the time, but while setting the timing, the engine began to overheat (or at least indicated that it was overheating). It has a new dual core radiator, water pump, temp sensor, polyurethane hoses and lower intake manifold. I disconnected the wire harness from the temp sensor and sending unit and the gauge still shot straight to middle. All the other gauges work properly and the temp gauge ohms at 22. Does anyone have any ideas?

It may be a bad ground in the gauge cluster. Mine does something similar. Mine will appear to be getting hot as I drive with the headlights on, turn them off and the temp. goes down to below half. If I turn on headlights without even having the key in the ignition, the temp. will slowly climb all the way up. Get an aftermarket gauge and see what it really is.
