knocking noise from back of motor

Default knocking noise from back of motor

this is my situation i have a 89 mustang with a rebulit 302. stock block gt40 p heads new rods lifters b303 cam bbk headers and 24lb injectors and biog mass sensor and 70mm throttle body. my problem is i have a knock in my motor that sounds like its coming from the back i torn the motor down took out my lifters and everything and can still hear noise when cranking it. any suggestions to what it mihgt be some one told me the flywheel might be loose or along that lines

That is possible. You will know that if you take the starter off and try and move the flywheel.

Rev motor up to 2500rpm let off gas.Knock knock on deceleration is a loose flywheel.

OR... he could just take the starter out and try to wiggle the flywheel....
OR... he could unbolt the bottom part of the block plate, and try to wiggle the flywheel...
OR... he could use a pry bar from the clutch fork hole.... to try to wiggle the flywheel...


basically, don't run the car anymore. You can be causing serious damage to the crank and/or flywheel.

+ he did say he tore down the motor....

anyway, there are a few suggestions so lets see what happens

thanks everyone put a new fly wheel on and new clutch why not while i was there car sounds great now
