Default Novi 1000 or AFR 165 heads?

Hey guys. I'm just looking for some opinions on what some of you would do. The only things that I have done so far are cobra intake,65mm tb,76mm c@l,2.5 catback and 3.73 gears. I would be installing these myself, so I was leaning toward the s/c because it would take less time to install. But on the other hand if I blew a head gasket I'd have to take the heads off anyways. Also I would have to upgrade the fuel pump with the s/c but not necessarily with the heads. I guess my question is would just swapping heads be the safer route? The engine has 95,000 on it.

I'd do the heads, they are WAY cheaper and while you're at it get a cam (not too much more money) and your car will scream. And then after all that you've saved a couple grand.

The thing is the novi costs $1700( 5 psi) and the heads cost $1300, but after buying roller rockers, gaskets and bolts it would be around the same price. I have heard really good things about the afr's, but I just put the intake on 3 weeks ago and I'd hate to go through that again.Lol If I had known that I was getting a bonus from work I would have waited. Damn. The other thing about the s/c is tapping the oil pan.

True, I'd still go with the heads though, there is less of a chance of anything going wrong and you get to put some new gaskets on. And if you put a cam in it's going to sound sweet.

Not to mention some fuel stuff you should do when you put a supercharger on. You need the fuel pump, possibly larger injectors and a recal on the MAF, adjustable FPR, etc. etc. A head/cam/valvetrain setup is going to usually net you more HP but not as much torque as the charger which will put you closer to a new clutch, etc.

So basically a set of afr or gt 40 heads with 1.7 rr's, or heads, cam and 1.6 rr's would be the way to go. Would I need to upgrade to 24# injectors or would the 19's be adequate? With what I have now, and with either of those combos, what do you think rwhp would be at. Oh one more question. Will the stock 5speed transmission hold up? Thanks in advance.

I just did a .030 over 302 with the cobra intake E303 cam, 70 mil T body, 15/8 bbk shorties, 24# with 190 lph fuel pump and matching mass air meter with AFR 185 heads. On a chassis dyno it made295 HP and 310 lb ft at the wheels with a 5 spd. I would go AFR 185's because down the rosd you can grow with these heads. Most tests show they make the same low end power as the 165 heads but take over up top. Even though the cam is an E303(had to pass emmissions) the engine has a wicked sound with the flow masters. The shop that dynoed the car said with the 3.73 gears it has and slicks the 5spd car would run 12.3 on engine in the 1/4. I built this combo and it works, it hauls!!!! Good luck.
