Default New Cam in a 1991 mustang gt 5.0 h.o roller block

Okay so I got a New Howards cam, part number 211031. I want to put it on my 1991 Mustnag Gt with a 5.0 H.O engine. I pulled the engine apart and put in the new cam, the block was the XXX block. I changed the hydraulic lifters and push rods with flat tappet lifters and longer push rods. I put the cam in and now I can't seem to get the timing right. It starts but it is very boggy and idle's terrible. And when I hit the gas it is very boggy. Anyone know if that cam will not work for some reason or if I need to do anything else?

Compression test, verify valves are closing.

That cam should work just fine for that engine. Sounds like you need to remove the valve cover tdc it and verifiy valves are proper. Mybe intake valves opening and closing to soon. Is there any backfire goin on or just no power??

I have adjusted the timing to almost every possible way. Sometimes i get back fire. I have put it in tdc many times and tried timing it and I still get nothing. The car will start up and run, but it is very shaky and very boggy when i give it gas. Sounds like pre mature detonation.

you can time it all day long with the distributor but if the valve train isnt in sink with the crank you not gonna get it in time with the dizzy. You need to visually verify that the valves are closing all the way and not opening or closing to soon . A compression test and checking the valve clearance are in order and maybe even removing the timing cover again to verify it is lined up correct .

why would you go back in time and remove a superior roller camshaft and install a chitty flat tappet one and all be it one that is lesser in performance than the stock h.o one you removed and if you are trying to run a non h.o cam with the sefi fuel injection, which the cam you bought is according to the part number, non h.o then there in lies your problem, the injectors are fired based on sequence and in conjunction with the firing order of the h.o cam, Hate to tell you, gotta pull that cam back out and for pete sake go get a decent roller cam WITH THE H.O FIRING ORDER = prob solved.

As soon as I read his prob , I figured the cam carried the wrong firing order, as there were very few flat tappet h.o cams offered, most carry the 289/302 firing order and not the h.o/351 firing order, just had to visit howards website and verify his part number
