87-93 Mustang 5.0's
Guys, I have a few more questions about these cars.
First of all, are these cars hard to work on? I dont have any experiance working on cars but I learn stuff pretty easily and consider myself a fairly bright guy. I mean would I be able to work on my car just from reading some books, or looking on the internet? Im not talking about big stuff like the transmission, but some of the more basic engine work. It doesnt seem like the older engines are that complex.
And second, what would be the odds I would have to get serious work done if I bought a 90-92 in decent condition? I dont drive hard at all. In fact ive only driven about 8k miles in the year and a half ive been driving. To those of you who have looked at 90-92 Mustangs recently what percentage of them are in fantastic shape?
Thanks for any responses. I look forward to blowing away Si's and SRt-4's

If you can find one in decent shape, how much do they usually cost? a few grand? I understand they werent that popular and gas is way too expensive these days so im guessing theyd be pretty cheap by now.
Another thing I wanted to ask about is the manual transmissions. How good are these in this perticular generation of Mustangs? Were they better built than say the automatic transmissions? and is the speed difference between auto and manual transmissions like jap cars? Which one is faster.
Thanks for any help.

in socal really ez...price depnds on exactly what you want. a lx 5.0 or gt can be ghad for $3500 and clean about 130k
a notch is more expect to pay $4500+ for clean
a 5-speed w/ 2.73 gears will get 20-24 mpg
as far as 5-speed auto......absolutley no comparison, i have owned (5) 5.0's 3 t5's and 2 aod's
5 speeds are way stronger , rob less power and usually run about 1 second faster than an auto comparibly equipped
my '90 gt aod w/ 3.73's and tires went 14.40's, my notch 5-speed w/ 4.10's and tires went 13.20's
No matter what anybody says about an aod...if you want consistency go w/ a c4 auto...stronger than a t5 and robs not much power but it has no od
here si a pic of my '93 i just got about 3 months ago...i has 108k on it and clean as you can see....has a few mods to bot and i piad $5800 for it...but like i said notchbacks are definitely more expensive it was a hatch...probably would sold for $4500

I love that blue color. Here's a car in the for sale ads on this site which has the came color as your car https://mustangforums.com/m_732872/tm.htm Though it looks pretty hammered with almost 200k on the odometer. It looks nice though.
I just recently started reading about how notchbacks are lighter...but also more expensive. Id probabaly just get a fox top.
Anyways, did you read my last post about working on these cars? Ill admit I dont know jack sh*t about cars and this sort of intimidates me considering these are older American sports cars.
Let me tell you this, I've been around to work with Volvo 960's, Toyota Corolla's and Camry's, and old impalas, as well as the current 1987 GT. I'll tell you now, this puppy isn't as simple as the chevy, but she isn't that hard. Just have to read and know what your doing before you do it. There are ALOT of sites on the web dedicated to the Fox Bodies, info on replacing and installing things is bountiful. If you can turn a wrench, then you could probably get away with alot of work done by yourself. Also, may I point out, 1 thing that is bad about work on a Fox is that 1 problem can be caused by SEVERAL things.
