Over fill AOD
So I just installed a 2800-3200 stall from Boss hog Converters in my stock AOD with 65k miles on it. I was filling it (1qt in converter at install) then 4 qts down the dip stick tube. When running I added 5 more qts, now when running hot it’s reading way over full on the dip stick (10qts total now). I know it’s suppose to take at least 12 qts when dry if completely stock. I called boss converters and talked to the owner. He told me a few things.
1. It should still take around 12 qts maybe more since I added an external cooler.
2. I should have used type F fluid but since I already put it 10 qts of motor craft mecron V just add 2 qts of Lucus stop slip.
3. He said now that I have a 10 inch converter the dip stick will read wrong and to add fluid while hot untill it vents out on the trans after I add the lucus stop slip.
-Thoughts? Is there any issue filling an AOD till it vents?
I also have had an issue where the trans doesn’t down shift fast when coming to a stop sometimes so it stalls the engine a bit till I tap the gas, I’m guessing this is a TV pressure issue? This was an issue before the install and still remains.
Thanks!
Here’s the converter I installed https://bosshogtorqueconverters.com/?product=26403-ford-aod-street-bandit-28-3200-rpm-torque-converter
Wasn’t getting any responses on Reddit so I’m reposting here.
