My Son and I just purchased an 89/5.0 GT and was wondering where to start. The car is in really good shape for being owned by a teenager who's Uncle happen's to work at Saleen. I noticed on the car that ithas a Saleen ground effects kit and Aluminum heads and some other thing's. I was wondering if I should drive it and find out what is wrong with it til winter and go from there. We will Have time to work on it my Son leaves for a 14 month Deployment to Iraq so we want to do this as a Long Distance Father Son Thing. We want to do a 4 link rear and roll cage my Boy wants a 10 second streetcar when we are done.TheBlock is original no machine work ever it has 87k on it. So I guess I am asking for assistance on what type partsor who is the best to deal with and if there are any good Machine shops in mid michigan just all kinds of questions don't even know where to start.
Thank You
Jeff T.

I would supercharge it for one, does it have an aftermarket intake or cam on it as well. There are so many things you can do.

for a 10 second street machine an aftermarket block may be necessary depending on how you build it up

We are working on getting the car transported from the detroit area to the Mid-Thumb area I will have some idea soon. I was told by the young man that they were ford GT40 type heads. it has a slight cam. I am new to the fomoco motors. Have to be honest I haven't ever had the opportunity to own a Mustang Always wanted one but Family came first. Always owned family vehicles so the performance end of this is new to me any help would be appreciated I know research is going to be exstensive. But I am ready .

Congrats on the purchase, the great thing about these cars is the aftermarket, there are so many different ways for you to achieve your goal, parts are relativly cheap too. For a 10 second car, I'd put a 351w in that car bore stroke and some nitro with proper suspension to plant all that power = one hell of a streetable 10-11 second car
