I know how you feel about MD emissions......been there done that ...that's why I moved to west virginia........but still work in MD....if you plan to drive the car and have it tagged in MD then best bet is to go with the older car and you may be able to get historic tags and won't have to worry about emissions then....some say historic tags there are now 20 years???

If you put the 86 stuff in..theroretically it has to conform to the 91 emissions but either way you look at it it'll be run on the dyno/treadmill test.....as long as it'll pass the sniffer they won't even open the hood there...it's your call but remember most of the people on here are not from MD so their advice will only be valid from a logical and opinion stand point, since they are not familiar with MD emissions laws

doesn't matter if it's a 4 , 6 or 8 cyl the test measures emissions output in grams per mile =gpm.....and the max standard is the same for all vehicles pre obd II I ran mine in MD when it was a 4cyl and it passed easy when I converted it to a 5.0 I ran it again just before moving to WV...and it just barely failed for nox= no egr valve...but the limits were the same for it as they were for the 4 cyl......it's a standardized limit for gasoline powered vehicles if I'm not mistaken
