Project Search and Rescue
So most people know I have a semi rough 1986 GT Mustang, i figured it was time to post my progress on the body to let yall see it, Ive been mostly doing motor odds and ends to get it running right. so lately ive been searchin all over local, on the internet, junkyards and finally got a good starting point, (girlfriend was like name it search in rescue incase u were wondering see seems to see that as what im doing) I have multiple rust patches, some bad some not so bad, I started on my right side quater panel repair yesterday afternoon. I thought about how to go about it for quite sometime, i finally decided itd be best to track down a similar mustang in a junkyard to cut a section out of their quater to put into mine, yesterday i ran to a local yard and cut a section out with a reciprocating saw. came home and started on it, heres some pics

Both inner and outer panel glued into place, just waiting on it to cure
incase you were wondering what i used instead of welding the panel into place i used a two part expoxy glue, it takes about a hour to cure, but full cure is 24 hours, it will be ready to be sanded tomorrow morning, ill post up some more after i do alittle bondo and primer it up.

Being that im currently in school for automotive collision and restoration, all of my previous and current teachers reccomended this rount, most of the automotive industry is leaning more towards panel bond, due to no warping from heat, fast and easy dry time, cures in less than 4 hrs on some brands. we visted a collision facility for a field trip they even panel bonded a whole quater panel on with it. along with a demostration using the frame bench to pull two pieces of steel with bond in the middle of the two and pulled it to...hmm i have it in my notes but it broke the part of the steel where the wench was attached to rather then where the bonding was, and also tested it with welds with did however snap on the weld. everyones got their different opinions tho so think as you will. im proud of my work on it for a first time ever doing it.

yeah yeah yeah.............I've seen and heard about that crap before, works great until a bud leans against it, but if you don't have access to a welder , heck, why not glue the car together and welding won't warp the panel if you know what your doing like not run a continuous bead of weld, that's what tack and spot welding is for, and it's alot quicker in 5 min I'm moving on to the next step not waiting for 4 hrs of dry time, and most places if they are leaning towards panel bonding is because ask yourself, what are more and more cars fabed out of now??? plastic crap!!! and if welds snap it's because you have an ametuer welder who failed to get penetration, more often than not the weld is stronger than the metal it pieces together, no one is knocking your work, it looked good, just never would be my choice of material for repair
