Gears?
#17
3900? Wiskey Tango Foxtrot are you even in 5th gear?
I'd suggest you are going MUCH faster than 70mph ..... but with the stock speedo gear and 4.10's you would normally read a faster than actual speed....... so I don't know what the hell you got going on there...Did someone install a speedo gear for 4.30's or 4.50's or something?
Granted my 5th is a tenth or two shorter in the tremec..... but with a 245/45/17 and 4.10's I run ~2700 at 70mph. Average 18mpg @ 70mph.
if you run 3900RPM at 70mph in 5th gear...... the 4.10's are not your problem.... Your tach or your speedo is lying to you.
4.10s are fantastic weekend warrior street car gears. Only problem is you may run out of gear in the 1/4 if you run a power adder or loose traction in the 60'. If you go through the traps in OD you are doing it wrong!
Love my 4.10's but I run a 100 shot and I eventually want to go boosted...... 3.73's will be my replacement. 3.90's are also a really good N/A gear for these cars. Plus, I don't like to shift super hard/fast so if you don't drive your car right you can actually end up with slower times using taller gears.
oh, and you WILL notice a significant difference between 4.10 and 3.73.

1990lxhatch, do you think 3.55 is a good gear for a almost stock stang? I have 2.73 now I think. how do you check your gearing?
I want good highway, but I want good take off too. the car has pwer, it just needs something to give it better climb.
I had a friend who had 3.73 in his car and I think it was just, in my opinon, too much rev on the highway for what I want..
heres another question: does having a higher gear put more strain on the internals? I would guess it does put some more strain on the internals, but just how much, how high should I go on my car, a 111k car?
