I want good highway, but I want good take off too. the car has pwer, it just needs something to give it better climb.

I had a friend who had 3.73 in his car and I think it was just, in my opinon, too much rev on the highway for what I want..

heres another question: does having a higher gear put more strain on the internals? I would guess it does put some more strain on the internals, but just how much, how high should I go on my car, a 111k car?
3.55 is the "have it all" gear. You get decent highway mileage with a torquey pull. 3.90's are ideal and I wish I'd have bought those instead. Most people find 3.73's ideal..... and the fact that every other bolt on mustang has them is a turn off for me. All my fellow fox buddies think the 4.10s make my car seem faster than theirs... in reality its a driver's race nearly every time.

In regard to stress....... engine speed isn't so much of a concern as the load the engine is under. A V8 motor turning 2000rpm in a 5000lb truck pulling a trailer is under much more stress than a V8 in a 3000lb unloaded car turning 4000rpm.

If you don't have aftermarket control arms AND torque box reinforcements I wouldn't recommend running any sort of drag compound tire and/or low ratio gears. You will beat on it, it will take a while to get used to launching it and the damage will be contained to your u-joints, control arm bushings, trans mount and torque boxes.

If you floor your car to redline with any sort of frequency (once a drive cycle or so) you shouldn't be concerned highway revs. They are relatively harmless. Hell, boat motors run 5k all day long.

Nope. I really can't explain why the mathematics of dire diameter, final drive ratio and trans gear ratio don't apply in your alternate world. Perhaps it has something to do with the kid collecting the data..... hmmmm

so I should get better arms and tb reinforcements before I put gears on the car? hard to amagine, I have had friends that ran gears, I dont think they worried about these things

just b/c you dont worry about it, does not mean it can not be a problem.

right, well my nitrous running couldve done damage too but ..

can you just replace the bushings rather than the control arms in the rear, regarding this problem?

I'd suggest you are going MUCH faster than 70mph ..... but with the stock speedo gear and 4.10's you would normally read a faster than actual speed....... so I don't know what the hell you got going on there...Did someone install a speedo gear for 4.30's or 4.50's or something?

mmm, 4.10's with a 3 speed auto = 3500rpm doing about 60 ;P

gears may not give you wheel hop, u might be ok.
if you do, replace the bushings. a better, but more expensive alternative is adjustable control arms.

#1 Spelling error noted. My mistake. Your grammar could use a little work... but it seemed a bit immature to bring it up in a technical discussion.

#2 You got an attitude with me first. My original post was more of a *shock* that you were spinning almost a 1000RPMs more than everyone else with the same equipment.... not as directive to insult you. Again, perhaps I was misunderstood. I'm not trying to e-thug anyone.

#3 The more you post - the more mistaken, immature and hypocritical you make yourself out to be. An intelligent, reasonable and sensible person would likely be embarrassed by typing the bolded text above.

However, squashing this nonsense will be much more productive.... Lets figure out what's going on.

If in a mathematical perspective your engine speed doesn't match up your wheel speed given your gear ratio and trans ratios........

And in practice nobody else with the same trans, gears and tires is turning nearly 4 grand at 70mph.....

Is it more like you are

A) Living in the twilight zone

or

B) Mistaken about one of the variables involved in the problem
