Default Head

What type of heads could I put on a 87 mustang 5.0 H.O. motor without beaking the bank? I have a stock mustang with BBK shortie headers, at least I was told that.

From what I can see a set of heads run $1500. You might as well go with a supercharger kit...

I picked up a bare set of new Holley heads on ebay for 420. After machining you should be around 700. Holley still has some on ebay if you want to go that route.

Tristatecylinderhead.com has some aluminum reman heads for about that too.

Otherwise used heads would be the way to go.

To the OP, you will also need to buy new gaskets, bolts, possible pushrods, etc. Everything can add up quickly.

You would come out better doing the heads first. It would be like putting a supercharger on the car. On the other hand, it would keep you from having to chop the car up as much.

There is a little more to bolting on a supercharger unless you go with the fmu.

This is an area where you don't really want to go the cheap route. I'd say save up for a whole kit so you don't have to search all over to get everything you need. Then again you could find someone local selling gt-40s and be satisfied with that.

thanks for all your help. Would GT 40 heads give a significant amount of power gain? Would the bbk shortie headers work with these heads? I am concerned with sparkplug removal...
