tracks around here have people running that in the 1/8 and have never said a word in a test and tune. That is a 7.0 car pretty much.

A car having another 1/8th and only doing a hundred is slow.

Still though, It is a good precaution. I would still rather have a cage first before the helmet.

just cause i have 6 engineering finals this week, why not. Share the learning love.

as we all know.. hopefully.. F= ma

F-> force
m -> mass
a -> hopefully alot its a mustang.

So, lets say were going to hit a pole. A pole that is rigid. ie, this fker isnt moving, bending or breaking.

Car hits pole and Pole - 1 car - 0

Mass is constant, our car isnt going to vaporize when we hit this pole. Either on the autobahn or on the strip.

So our force is dependent on the acceleration alone essentially.

On the track, since were all in our cool mustangs where halling some ***. Accelerating at like 20m/s^2. ( its make story ill make the rules, m= meters, im Canadian)

On the autobahn, assuming no drag, or friction ( basic laws here... )
Were not accelerating at all. Just cursing at a constant speed. Apparently a fast one.

So you might say omg if a=0 F=0 ! FAIL.

Lets take a step back. And look at energy, and force, and why we even care what force equals.

When a car collides with our pole, alot of kinetic energy needs to be dissipated. Which usually involves throwing us out the window or breaking our necks.

This, is due to the deceleration. ( for all those smart ***'s that think im trying to be all smart here, i realize deceleration isnt a real word. Im just trying to justify physics b4 bed.)

The fact that you are going from 120 mph or 150 mph to 0mph. Is a fraction of a second. The acceleration is HUGE.

Acceleration is the measure of the change in speed. In our case its negative, because were stopping.

Along with the car going from 120 - 150 mph -> 0mph in even 5 seconds ( which is a larger amount of time for our rigid pole ).

Your body is going from 150 - 0. If your not wearing a seat belt, well the cars now going 0mph, your still going 150mph out the window, into our rigid pole. **

The acceleration from coming to a complete stop, is whats going to kill you. Just because your on a highway not accelerating like you do on the strip has a minimal effect on our massive deceleration.

Air bags are designed to absorb energy by slowing our faces down through a larger time gap then our face smashing into the steering wheel.

** To explain this a bit more, when you excellerate in your car from 0mph, to lets say 70mph very quickly, you get sucked back into your seat, this is because your moving 0 and so is the car. The car starts moving, and needs to accelerate. This is one of newtons main laws i will not go into.

I hope you enjoi the read, don't chirp it to much.

speed doesnt kill its the sudden stop that does

Also, let's not forget. We all know we are excellent drivers right? But sometimes it isn't our fault. You could be going down the track when the other guy messes up and comes across, same goes for the highway. Even if you have never seen a track crash in person, just youtube them, with some if that doesn't make you want to put a helmet on, i am not sure much will.

My apologies. I didnt realize that you needed an invite to post an opinion on a public forum.

Good luck finding your helmet.

If you only going to be using it in car id suggest open face, more open and comfortable.....

Its your head, you only have one, protect it.
