I see your point but, I don't see why. I understand that the different weight of the piston and rod could affect it but, if I tell them how much they weigh, why couldn't they balance the crank without having the piston and rods.

If they knew exactly the weight they could, yes. But you can't JUST weigh it. The parts are weighed, then the big end and small end of the rod are each weighed and you do some math to account for that, and assemble a bob-weight. That's all that's on it when they're balanced anyway, is just a bob-weight bolted to the journals.

They still need the balancer and flywheel on it though, I thought you were saying why would they need those. Balancing requires crank, bob-weights, balancer and flywheel/flexplate.

I was kinda. Then thought better. I would think if he went to a TRW .20 over piston, he may pull off getting them back to the weight of the standard piston. At least the chances would be better than a .30 or .40 over. Running a TRW piston is kinda really useless though since they are so heavy but, like mentioned earlier if it was blown, it wouldn't matter. It would make more than enough power.

Anyways, I just can't really see putting a whole lot of cash into a stock 302 block. Or even a 351 block. After watching a guy around here run 9s with a 70 model windor headed engine and seeing how much fun he had with it, I don't think I would want anything other than that for racing. After he sold that motor for 2 grand, and built an aluminum headed motor that was way quicker, people started talking so much more **** to him. He said the other night, he was going to sell that motor and go back to another piece of shiz motor just because of the fun factor. It really is kinda amazing he got it to run that fast and I could probably never get one to run like that until building many of them but, after enough trial and errors, I believe I could get close.
