ok well since the gears including installation are gonna run me around $500, what about some underdrive pulleys, which i could do myself? I think in my case those are the most reasonable mods for me to do next, along with a smog pump elliminator

you spend between upwards to $200 to give yourself charging problems, possible overheating problems, and a less than noticable gain in HP. They MIGHT result in 1-2 hp at the wheels.... Driving in colder weather will net better results.

well they are kinda a waste of money. i agree that a couple hp at most at the wheels. you will have charging problems in cold weather. i used them on my first 5.0, got rid of it 1995 i think and have never used them again after that.

and you are correct that for $300 your options are pretty nil

to just be a tenth faster in the 1/4 mile, you need to gain 10hp or drop 100 lbs

(thats a ballpark number...but good rule of thumb for 13 second cars and slower)

anyways, for $300 i'd get a set of cheater slicks or a used nitrous kit

that or save for heads and a intake swap. cam is not totally necessary but , heads and intake with some 1.7's will do nicely

trim some weight..its free
do you have a stock shifter ?? get a good shifter

basically you can improve on what u already have, either by cutting weight, better driving skill, or improved traction

i have a pypes off road x pype, cold air intake, and a steeda tri ax short throw that i installed myself. other than that i have 275's on the rear and 255's on the front. i'm a good driver ( not bragging), just wanted a few more horses for my stang for a $250-300 range.
