Default What now? Water pump?

After some bracket modifications I got the radiator in. Also did the new brake booster. It wasn't too hard. But now I've got another problem.

We went to start the car up and it squealed real bad an the serpentine belt started smoking. We loosened the tension on the belt and found the water pump locked up. We were able to take a wrench and break it free, which you could then turn by hand. Tried starting it again, same squeal. Checked out the water pump and it was again locked up. Broke it free and again it would turn by hand. Tried one more time to start it and same problem. Is this a sign that the water pump is bad? It would explain my cooling issues if so.

IMO your water pump is shot and the internal bearings are fried. Time for a new water pump.

Thanks guys. I talked to my brother-in-law, who used to manage a Vato Zone and he told me the same thing about the bearings. Looks like I'll be getting a new water pump tomorrow.
