I agree. I have a buddy who had Victor Jr's (205cc) on his 306. That thing was sluggish and dragged ***, even with 4.10's.

185's would be the biggest I'd go on a 302

Well it will be a street car so i wont need the power until i need the power. Will larger the 185s loose hp?
and looks like afr has the largest carb/50 state legal heads. are there any others ? I thought i seen some trick flows the were larger than the 170s some where.

Besides the carb/smog looking at windsor sr's ,trickflow.

No. Youre going to spend $1400 on the low end. Do it though. it's worth the money. Good heads are definitely one thing where you get what you pay for.

In simple terms, a larger head on that size motor will move air slower at lower rpm's. You'd have to spin that thing pretty high to take advantage of the larger intake cc. With a smaller type head, air will move quicker.

To directly answer your question, yes you would lose horsepower if your motor isn't built to rev up that high.

Dont get the big boy syndrome! fair warning...... ^^^^^^^^^^^^ you have just been given a very correct statement! Dont buy ahead, wait save your money, get the entire 351w setup, then swap if that is where you are going!

If you dont you will be needing that sledgehammer you mentioned!

Thanks much for the insight thus far , i made a thread a while back and didn't get much far.

Well talking about bottom end and limits any budget block out there that will withstand 500+hp (which seems to be the upgrade point)that could take some high revs. 302,332-347s too be specific?

The 351w thing may get pushed back a bit more, although i have talk to this guy who has a 92 efi , not sure if i mention it earlier or not. I was planning on getting it in the next couple days(could have gotten it last week), i still want to grab it and start the swap swap. Its much of the reason why i asked if ill gain from it .
So yeah im a bit caught up here but i do think myself that after whats been said getting the 351w now should be a good choice 1 good reason its basically getting a stroker .

Is there short tubes i can run. The long tubes are not exactly 50 state legal?
the motor has the stock shorties on it in sure they are a bit restrictive . i have flow masters and my buddy has built a custom exhaust for one of his 351 swaps already and i think he is running shorties but aftermarket.

i just about done with trying to get teh stock block to/past 7krpms i thought id need the bottom end balanced and the engine to breath up there seems im wrong ??correct me if you know something id like to know.
Also not looking to do a chevy swap, rather just go with 351w , & ill geta camaro or corvette before a chevy swap, thought about it and i have an extra roller. (if i think reviving it is worth it and can find a chevy drive train for cheap enough well t hat may be a project)

There are some long tube headers that are 50 state legal......
I think BBK is in fact.

My understanding is there are no long tube and only a few shorty carb legal headers out there. If your not in califorinia alot of other state will pass you as long as you dont remove the cats. Theres ways around the whole inspection sticker thing.
