Not only are bandpass loud, but they only play a very limited frequency range.

Yes I am an idiot.
And what block? A street block. Or does your license plate rattle at a frequency and you can hear that a block away?
Type-R's are nothing, Everyone should stop talking about them like they are something special. Like they aren't sold in Best Buy.
My friend offered to trade me his 2 Type-R 12's in a ported box plus $100, for my pair of Power Acoustik 12's in a sealed pre-fab box. Power Acoustik im sure if you have a Type-R you know what these are. They are easily louder and sound about the same. And cost less initially.

Just gotta say, I HAD a Type R, unitl the stupid voice coils burnt and it almost gave me brain damage (musta had a little in hindsight for buying it) from the smoke that was coming into the car. If it was rated at 500RMS and 1500max, and blew with a 600W amp, with the gain only about 3/4, I now must say it was a POS, it sounded ok, but I was dissapointed, if I would have paid more than 100$ for it, I would have been really pissed at myself. But would I consider myself an idiot for having it no, I would consider myself an idiot if I were to buy one again though. I'm replacing it with an MB Quart RWE (says it's comperable or better than JL SQ wise, but not as loud). And I only paid 110$ brand new in the box with shipping. Would I ever recommend a Type R again, no, for the price, if you know what to look for theres so many better options. The average 17 year old (me) wants a Type R because everyone has them and they sound really loud at the car audio stores in there heavily sound deadened boxes, but once put in a car it doesn't sound nearly as good. Like they say, knowledge comes from experience, and my experience has taught me to avoid Alpine subs.
Just my thoughts.

Ricers are to the domestic world.

Type R's are just hyped for teenagers that listen to rap music and drive V6 mustangs. I bet most of the owners of type R's also wear visors upside down and backwards.

Seriously, any sub can be loud (my $10 visonik I bought from wal-mart for fun can outperform a lot of setups I have heard). If people would educate themselves, there would be fewer type r's on the road.

Interesting, are you trying to say that statistically, Type R's are the new Audiobahn?

The other thing i gotta say is, that most people who get subs, just buy a sub and a prefabbed box, in my experience this can make even the best subs sound like crap (theres some definite exceptions) but I think a good percentage of what would makea system, regardless of the exact components, sound good would be the installation, stuff like speaker angles, sub enclosure volumes, wiring, and even just the positioning of components in the car itself. These things don't apply to the average teenager (I know a lot of them) because what they want mostly involves getting it loud and getting it quick, thats why they use Best Buy and not mail order their stuff ( not many retail shops have the higher end SQ stuff, because it's harder to sell in a store, its not flashy and loud). The average setup at my school may sound loud outside the car, and rattle house windows, but if you actually get in the a car with some of these dudes, it's like torture, usually it's just massive ammounts of bass, and then they compensate for it with way too much treble and then say, "dood, my shiiit Buumps!" being a amature audiofile, and all around tweeker, I find it funny.
Another long and boring rant from my mind

Nothing will ever be like Audiobahn. They are marketing geniuses. I forget who "started" Audiobahn, I know he's a former large company president. I dont know if you seen my rant in some other thread, but i went on and on how their marketing budget is 10x their R&D and engineering budget is.
