no body makes their own stuff now, it is all offshore for the most part. I really hate to hear all you guys bashing JL since most of you have not ever owned it. I can sayFerrari's suck all day butIhave never owned one so what would I know(I have driven one into the bay though!). The fact remains that if you put it in you would not want or need to take it out. Just because it costs more then the usual consumer is willing to pay does not make it bad or overpriced. I have been installing them for 8 yrs now at my new shop and guess how many of their amps I have pulled for being bad and sent off for service? Guess how many subs(that were not obviously abused by a combination crack/bass head.)?

0.000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 00000000 and you can round up if you want to........

I started off installing at Best buy and it was a DAILY occurence to get something that was dead out of the box and 2 times a day we pulled them out and sent them for service. When they came back from service we would bench test them to make sure that they worked as they had a bad record of comming back with "GOOD" stamped on them but there was nothing good about them.

JL does not have this problem........... nor would you if you owned them.........

Here is an issue that a friend raised to me once regarding the equipment best buy sells. I do not have any substantiated evidence, but an friend would swear it was true.

Best buy is a lot like wal mart. They buy millions and millions of pieces of equipment every year from manufactorers and sell it for a markup. It is common knowledge that wal mart places a very restrictive cost on its suppliers to get lower prices, and becuase of this quality is decreased. You cannot do a quality job without making the prices reasonable. A friend of minewho worked for various audio suppliers believed that best buy did the same thing. They made so much money by cutting cost/quality that it would far exceed the cost of replacement equipment and shipping. He actually went to tell me that when comparing Yamaha home audio recievers with essentially the same specs and price, but a slightly different model number, the one sold at an independant dealer has higher quality internals then the similar peice at best buy. Best buy is about making money, not making customers happy, whereas the sales volume of an independant dealer is so much smaller he must supply a great product, price and have highcustomer satisfaction.

Just some food for thought.

A couple buiilt points from what I think.....

1. JL has good QC andmakes great quipment. Too bad theyknow their equipment is good and they charge you for it.
2. The volume of speakerssold at a best buys is exponentially higher then that at a local retailer so they have a huge influence on cost/quality.
3. The biggest influence on equipment reliablity is the person operating it.(I've been almost disapointed that my equipment has already lasted me6 years on ym HU and sub and 5 years on myamps andcomps becuase I have the constant urge to upgreade)

as I said I worked at BBY for for a few years and what he said is %110 correct. You are justa number to them and if you don't buy it, some other ahole will. They treat their employees the same unfortunatly as there is always a constant suply of 16-18 yr olds that do not know any better. When they finally asked me to leave I was already on my way out the door as I was tired of the way they treated me. The fired my supervisor(WE were the 2 person install bay) for some BS reasons and then was amazed when we could not find anyone with ANY experience that was willing to go to the bay, or that looked like they we trainable... After 3 months of comming in late 2 mornings a week(because of school) and begging for a day off every 2 weeks I had enough. I am not kidding when I say that I have only bought one thing from there in the 10+ yrs since I left(my brother wanted to **** me off and gave me a $100 gift card). I think the BBY's and walmarts are killing the economy as well as the moral of the empoyees that are often times in their first job.......

and if you really do not believe this, check out bestbuysux.org

I have been happy to post on the disgruntled employe side but as I said I stay away from the consumer side........

Seriously though, when you have enough corporate muscle you can treat your employees, suppliersand customers like crap.

I honestly think that corporate America cares nothing for thier customers. I hate wal mart, I go to HEB and I hate best buy so I usually go elsewhere. Luckily I have the luxury to choose where I shop. I feel sorry for the people that have to shop at wal mart! They are causing the prices to rise by abusing suppliers, yet people still shop there. Wal mart is the devil, but it is a neccesart evil.
