subwoofer box
yea i was starting to think about just making a custom one out of some regular plywood but never thought of how the air and all that stuff made a difference. maybe ill just only use the one 12 and just get a small box. damn trunk!! lol
have a custon box built....better quality and they will build it to what your subs requires for air space...if you want to get real picky about it you can have your box built for a certain TUNE which if your looking for SPL then something you want to look into....the prefab boxes like best buy sells are really only good if you want to put any 2 12's for a little bass and those are usually about 1 1/2 foot of air space and are made of 1/2 inch wood...Depending on what subs you have and what you have for power 2 12's would sound good....if your looking for SPL then When i go to db drags you will want to fold down your rear seat for better pressure...there are lots of people around here pushing 147-150 with 2 12's....what it all comes down to is air space and power....i have 2 12 inch jl audio w7's and a jl audio 1000/1 in my caddy with my seat down and it pressures about 148...with my factory alternator....sorry for the long post but when it comes to the audio part of a car .......LOL

Not only is plywood less rigid, but it flakes over time and just doesn't make a decent box. Put some faith in your sub's owners' manual specs suggestions, the mfr. knows what's best. I just had a custom sub box built by a local carpenter/friend for my single 10" sub to factory specs: 3/4" MDF, 13 x 13 x 8" inside dimensions, all of $20 (but I'm sure he did me a favor!). The more power you put to the sub, the shallower the box. I had my box built assuming about 150 watts, but will end up likely doubling that, so it may end up too "boomy."
