Alarm/remote start in my 06 vert
I know this has been covered a million times probably, but I kind of want tailored answers here. I have a 2006 convertible with the basic alarm system, not the upgrade active alarm or whatever it's called. It has remote power door locks, trunk release, and a panic button. I would like to install an alarm system with features such as sensitivity to glass breaking, interior motion sensors, something like a shake sensor, and remote start.
By the shake sensor, I mean the thing that senses like the car being moved. Example, I had this sensor in my pickup truck in high school. Some jackass decided it would be funny to jump in the back of my truck, and the thing shot off a warning siren, and he almost crapped his pants.
I think if I'm going to invest in a quality security system, a motion sensor is a necessity because of the fact that it's a convertible. I rarely leave it unattended with the top down, but it'd make me feel a lot better if it's gonna go off if someone who shouldn't be sitting in it sits in it.
The major issue is I don't know how to deal with the factory features. Would it be best to completely remove the factory security system and start from scratch? My first impulse would say yes but I think that may interfere with something in the PCM.
thoughts? suggestions?
Thanks guys

most alarms will be wired in on top of the old alarm, no need to yank it.
interior motion sensors are good and bad. You will have issues with them if you park under a tree, if there are cats or birds around, ect. I put one in my truck long ago to keep my buddies from messsing with it but when they finally grew up and left it alone I disconnected it. I would say that a good glass break sensor and a shock sensor would be enough.
There are a number of good alarms out right now that will work. The biggest problem with an alarm is that the install is easy to mess up and a good alarm with a bad install can leave you wondering where your euquipment went or wondering why your car will not start? If you can try to pick the shops brain a little about install techniques. How do they make their connections? Crimp is acceptable, solder is prefered and t-taps and scotch locks are a no-no. Do they take the time to hide the alarm and its wiring or is it just crammed up in the dash?

I will warn you that audio and security are two completely different beasts. If this is one of your first couple alarms it is good to have somebody on hand that can answer questions about can-bus, door locks, relays, ect...
As for brands DEI makes good alarms under the names of sidewinder, python and a couple of others. Do you have $# in mind?

Uh, I don't don't really have a budget at the moment, as I'm just kind of looking at stuff. Lets say $500 give or take $150......can I get some quality equipment with that kind of money?

Yeah that price range will get you a pretty nice system. Check out the viper 5701 or 5900 sst these are remote start/keyless/alarm system.
Motion sensor will add about $80-$100, plus that interface to bypass the pats system in your key which will cost around $50-$80.

Simply installing the electronics isn't a problem for me, but wiring all the bypasses and interfaces is probably a bit over my head at this point after doing some research. Thanks for your help, I may buy a system and have a local knowledgeable shop do the install for me.
