Default head unit install for my pony

I have been in the process of installing my aftermarket Pioneer head unit in my car. I have gone through four different wiring harnesses for it and nothing is working. I have the Mach 460 system stock. I finally talked to a guy at my local audio store who knew what he was talking about. He sold me a bypass plug to get rid of the factory amps. The install for the head unit is ok. I can turn it on but I have no sound. My problem is w/ the bypass unit. According to the instructions, I unplug the amp(I have two so how do I do this w/ only one plug), and use the harness to connect the input and output. Fine. I tried that and the input fits(it is a plug w/ about six holes). Unfortunately the wiring in the stock plug is not the same as the wiring on my harness. Also, the output plug is only four prongs while the bypass plug is about eight plugs. This is all messed up.
Please help me with any advice etc.

Thanks!!!

My advice would be to go to crutchfield.com and select the make year, make, model, and stereo system for your car, and then find the head unit model that you have. They should then offer you a factory integration harness that will specifically integrate your head unit with the 460 (or whatever system) you currently have. This will make it to where you can use the factory amps with your new head unit without running new wire and speakers or worrying about impedence matching and such. They cost about 50 dollars and will save you some headaches.
