Replacing Shaker 500 in my 2005 Mustang GT
#11
ok so I got the correct harness, I wired it up, it had 2 blue/white wires, they both said amp switch, so i hooked them both up to the amp remote wire and plugged in the RCA's. made no difference, the only thing that would happen is it would make a loud pop when I powered up the head unit, so I've unplugged it for the time being. From what i can tell the big door speakers are not working. If anyone can help me out with this i'd appreciate it. Thanks.

The first entry on the stickied thread has the diagram for the 12v to 5v regulator should you wish to go that route, unnecessary IMO, but it will work and it´s all laid out for you. Trouble is that metal backing on the regulator, in addition to this being overkill, is going to be hot(5v) usually. So it will need to be covered in heat-shrink tubing as well.
Edit: just noticed your location. Nice. *Waves* from New Castle County.
Anyhow, I would just wire the 2 blue wires for the sub ons together like in this picture, then solder the 1.5k ohm resistor (you can grab from rag-shack) in-line (aka series) between this and the 12v remote on from the HU. Resistors have no polarity, so just choose one end of the resistor to solder to the amp on leads, and the other side to the remote on from the head-unit. Keeping a nice long bit of heat-shrink on the wire beforehand of course, to then cover the resistor and soldered wires.
I just grabbed the extras I had from my previous install, here´s the radio-shack part #: 271-1120. Just a single 1/2watt, 1.5k ohm resistor is needed, but that´s the 5 pack. So just ask the sales guy, probably a single there as well. Cost ya like $0.50.
I´d just yank mine and snap pics for it, but it´s all covered in heat-shrink tubing anyhow. And mine is a gianormous PITA to get back in just right again due to the insane amount of crap I´m stuffing into that area.
