Good choice on the 4200DVD! That's what I have and I really like it.
Whether you need the voltage regulator or not depends on your current setup. If you have the Shaker 500/1000, you will. If you have the standard 4 speaker setup, you won't. Radioshack has them for a dollar.
The install isn't very difficult, just simply taking all the trim apart, matching all your wires correctly, and putting it back together. The thing that gave me the most trouble was the dash trim around the headunit with all the buttons, it was a pain getting the wires to detach on the backside.
Currently I have a standard AUX cable, I need to get the correct Pioneer cable. The best way I found to route it was from the back of the headunit, into the console, and exiting through the backside of the e-brake sleeve. Doesn't sound very clean looking, but actually is. I'll post a picture if you need.

The diode itself had a gray stripe; when soldering the diode, be sure to have the gray striped end pointed towards where the wire branches off.
It´s just throwing it to ground, so he could just do a simple relay or switch(after it´s on) instead. But I´d think he´d want this just for future use regardless.
Sorry I didn´t notice that before, didn´t google the earlier referenced stuff you listed in the initial post tigercrazy. My bad.
Using the below diagram, using a simple SPDT(Single Position Double Throw) 12v relay you can get at rag-shack, you would need to run/wire off the remote on lead from the headunit (in addition to the other for the shaker sub turn ons) to pin 85, ground 86 and 87, and the e-brake lead from the headunit to pin 30 for this application.

This would then wait for the remote on to be hot, energize the coil(below pic), and switch 30 and 87 together to bypass (and in this case enable playback without the PAC unit) the lockout for DVD playback.

Additional diagrams and information can be had at the12volt.com.
Here´s a bypass vid instructional, ignore the bit towards the end about using the same relay to switch on other devices, as it would need to be shorting/switching hot leads, not grounds as in this case. Think he might have been hitting the bong before making this.

Context? For the relay? Routing usb to center console? ?
If referencing mine, if those two posts really don't put it into black and white for you, and not trying to be an *** here, really, but you might not want to be doing the wiring yourself to start with then.
Standard speaker blade taps will work, or you can get one of these to make the tapping easier, prettier and less dangerous if you don't properly insulate the contacts.
