I switched my head unit to a Pioneer touch screen and on my shaker 1000 system it made a 1000% improvement. My stereo sounds better than allot of the aftermarket setups out there. I would imagine that switching your head unit out would greatly improve the sound in the shaker 500 series. You would just have to add a sub for better dynamics.

 

I bought the Pioneer AVH-P3300DVD head unit for my mustang, and my husband put it in for me. It sounds great!! No need to change speakers out at this time.
