I-pod, headunit
I have a pioneer deck, and I just bought a special adapter for it (about 99 bucks) It hooks up similar to a cd changer, It sounds great, plus it has full control of the ipod through the deck. I believe you can buy these adapters for most aftermarket decks.
You can't use the factory amps because they are rated at 8 ohms to match the speakers and cd player i believe. if your installing an aftermarket head unit you will have to bypass the factory amps and buy aftermarket speakers as well bc the mach speakers are also 8 ohms to match the amps. when installing an aftermarket headunit in a mach 460 or mach 1000 equipped mustang you are better off just rewiring the speaker wires from the harness on the cd player all the way to aftermarket speakers. putting a new headunit in these cars is a bitch, but worth it if it's done right. look at the new alpine cd players, they connect directly to ipods with one wire and everything is controlled from the cd player itself..
well my buddies 04 mach 1 has a SAT button where my CD button is. does this mean that these are set up for satilite radio? if so could i get one of those and stick it in mine and hook up my i-pod to that?
not really unless u have shaker series. i just bought an alpine head unit and purchased an ipod adapter for 100bucks, i love it, it charges my ipod while i use it in my car, no problems at alll so far!!
let me tell you how it does work, since i do work at best buy in the install bay. my recommendation is to buy an aftermarket deck that is ipod compatible, pioneer, alpine, kenwood, and even jvc makes them now. then get the ipod adapter for the head unit and this will allow you to control your ipod through your head unit and while it is plugged in it will charge your ipod, also with this you will get true digital sound from your ipod. also with the mach 460 sound system there is no need to replace all of your speakers, they make a factory amp integration peice that runs about $40 and it will incorporate your factory amplifiers and will still sound great, i've done it plenty of times. all together you are looking from anywhere from $150 and up.

it can be done, we carry the peice at best buy, if you go to one just tell them that you are looking for a factory amp integration peice, i will find out the part # and manufacter and post it later so that you can look it up, hope this helps.
Howdy guys:
I too would like to play my i pod thru my Mach 460.
So I am following your discusion and doing some research.
Keep the thread up and let me know how things work out. And I'll let you know if I can discover any other kind of after market item that will help us.
Oh, and by the by; I've tried several of the FM transmitters and found that, even if the sound was OK, Living in a metropolitan area and driving around, no FM chanel stays free very long. A FM station will soon over ride your transmitter.
