I second Dodgestang's comments. 351m's and 400's have basically the same heads as a Cleveland and the valve covers are interchangeable. IIRC, Ford never made any factory valve covers that were stamped "351 Cleveland". If it's the original motor and the truck is a 75 or newer, it's not a Cleveland.
chect the area behind the distributor it jumps quite high to the intake mounting surface on 351ms and 400s most people call the engine in there truck 351 modified clevelands where im at cause they dont know the difference! also a cleveland will have a small block bellhousing bolt pattern!!! make sure before u buy! but if u are gonna build/ rebuild it i suggest www.351cleveland.net there is a company whos banner pops up on the home page they sell aussie cleveland stuff here in the us!! the aussie 2v heads are the best going for a street car!!!!
FYI about the Cleveland cams, they were ALL the same cam(excluding the 71 BOSS351) 2v or 4v same cam, and a real Cleveland in a truck is rare. a 351/400M in a truck is not rare. You can make ok power with the M but its not a popular engine so there arent many parts available for it.
Top end on the Cleveland is the same as the M, later M heads had a bump in the exhaust port but otherwise identical to Cleveland 2V heads. Bottom ends are quite different and you will need a 429/460 type transmission, and fitting one of those in a 66 is gonna be tough. You will probably need to cut the firewall for clearance and drill hole to reach the bolts.
Before you do anything make sure its a Cleveland, if its in a 75 or later truck most likely it isnt.

Take a tape measure with you. Remove hte aircleaner assembly and measure across the rear part of the intake manifold. From the top of one port to the other it should be no more than 11 and 3/4 inches across, like in the picture. Hold the tape down on the #4 port and let it curve over it as you measure. Not straight across.
Another way to tell if it isnt really dirty is to measure from the dipstick tube to the top of the block, not the head or valvecover, to the point where the gasket is between the head and block. It should be no more than 1 1/2 inches.

TRY ONE MORE TIME BEFORE I BECOME SILLY ANNOYED WITH IT.... sorry about the caps, the lock was on and I am too lazy to retype it.

Thanks Thumpin. I will need to remembe to take a tape measure with me. One thing though. In that picture it looks like they are measuring the front of the intake. SO do i measure the front or the rear? Thanks
I measured the rear of it, the front looks different. I just went outside and took those for ya. Measure it exactly as I did, if its the same size its a Cleveland, if its more than that its an M. $200 for an M is alot of money, although a 400 is worth something to truck guys.
The intakes are the same size front to rear but its easier to get to the rear of it to measure. Less stuff in the way back there, especially with a 2 barrel carb, which it should have.
