Default 67 289 Exhaust Header Problems

I bought a 67 289 coupe and found that the exhaust headers are dented inward on each side, it seems they are in the way when the tirerod of the front wheens is turned all the way in either direction. These are cheap aftermarket headers and I'd like to invest in a new set, one that wont be in the way and definitely lets my mildly modified 289 breath well. Anyone have any ideas, if so which brand and how much? Thanks

I would look into the JBA shorty or the mid length shorty. They are not cheap.

I bought some full length ceramic flowtechs that bolted up nice. Close to the starter but I used a wrap on the starter w/o any trouble yet. When this starter goes out a mini starter would fit perfect.

Edit: I have power steering and had to buy the bracket that drops the power steering cylinder down. But if you have ps youve probably addressed that since the car has headers already.

Actually I dont have power steering, so that kind of eliminated that problem from the start. Im new at the classic car game and Havent done much modifications, so how do the different length and size headers work. By that I mean what do the different sizes and lengths accomplish? Right now the previous owner put on some 2 1/2-3" (im not sure which size) flowmaster straightpipes, and they connect right up to the current exhaust. Ill post some pictures of it later, maybe that will help with which headers I should invest in, but as of right now the ones I have extend all the way under the car. I dont race, but I love the way the exhaust sounds right now and it would be nice to keep it that way. With that said...any ideas?

I get lost in the pipe diameter BS so I cant help with that. I think full length headers ar better for our applications than the shortys. If Im wrong hopefully Ill be corrected. Any who i could never justify the cost of shortys.

It sounds like you have full length headers with the mufflers bolted right tho the header. If so any mods you would make getting new full length headers wouldnt be too bad but its hard to tell. Mixing and matching exhaust is a crap shoot.

I have mine set up wiht the header bolting to the muffler.Sounds great.
