i recently put on a 600cfm carb and performer intake (both edelbrock) on my stock 70 302 coupe automatic and when i first drove it after installing the parts i hear the engine sounding alot smoother and more powerful but when i hit the gas and go WOT it sounds like the engine or transmission was straining i mean the rpms went up quick but the car didnt accelerate like it should have and i dont mean like a rocket but u can tell its not right when the stock manifold and 2brl carb accelerate faster then this what can be the problem?

Sounds like low trans fluid or bad torque converter.

have you set timing? set fuel mixture? any big vacuum leaks? choked exhaust? loose parts? loose nut behind the wheel? just a few things to check. timing and fuel being the most important. is the fuel pump moving enough fuel at adequit pressure? have you checked?

If the engine runs smoov - aim for the tranny - check fluid levels - if ok - smell fluid - if smell ok - rub fluid between fingers - if it feels like GOJO hand cleaner - your tranny is shot. Have you changed the fluid in it lately? If a tranny fluid change is performed on a vehicle that hasn't had one in a long time, you won't be able to go anywhere for very long. The loose junk and particles floating around your tranny would be the only thing holding it together. Shoot us back wif sum info!

well i checked the trans fluid level and its full and has a nice clear red color to it, under the car the pan is kinda dirty and has a coating of fluid over it, i dont think its been changed in a while ive been driving the car for like 8 months on and off and prior to that it had been sitting in the driveway for about 4 or so years, as for timing i had just set it before i began to work on the car and the car wasnt moved during and all distributer pieces rotor, cap, shaft were all aligned back together properly. o and whats the kickdown rod for? it kinda keeps sliping off the bracket that connects to the trottle assembly because i cant find a little washer to hold it. maybe its just my imagination for all this i mean i have those tiny little exhaust manifolds still on their and i think that can cause it to restrict flow to

the kick down linkage drops a gear when you stomp on it. if it is'nt hooked up or set right you will loose exel.

o hey one more thing do you know how the coolant temperature vacuum switch that mounts on the top of the termostat housing has 2 ports 1 for the distributer and another that connects vacuum through some metal lines and the last port that is covered with a metal cyliner that looks like it has a tiny rock in it well that last port broke off and i bought a new switch with 3 ports and covered the last one is that ok or did i need to get an exact one with that littel rock thing?
