Default possible head solutions

i realized as i was looking for heads for my 289 that alot of them that i was seeing would fit on a 289/302/351W so i was wondering if i go to a junkyard, find a decent 351W or 302 and took off the heads, had them port and polished, would that make more power on my 289, would that even work? are would i just be better off saving up and buying new ones? just curious, and also trying to save myself a little money too

Well I dont know what kind of performance you are looking for but Ford hasn't made a good iron head since the cleveland head, and your not going to use that surely. If you are set on an iron head from ford the only viable option is to get a set of gt40p's from explorers in the junkyard. Like 96-99 model year I believe. Or I hear people are taking there stock heads into the auto parts store like advance auto parts and getting the gt40p's for like 400 and give them your old junk head in exchange for the core charge. Either way, the ONLY ford head worth the trouble is the gt40p head

so the gt40p heads will work on a 289?? I figure they will, since the 289 heads also have the angled plugs.
