Eleanor
First of all, the "eleanor" kits do look good on 67-68 fastbacks, when done correctly. It is by no means, and I mean no means anywhere close to being riced out. But I must say the kits don't look good at all on 65-66 cars. The entire car is mucher softer to begin with and the scoops and the rest of the kit just don't fit. I do agree that it has been done to many times and that is what has ruined it for me.
Anyone read the new Mustang Monthly...or Hot Rod...can't remember which but Shelby is now going to be the ONLY one distributing his emblems and other items that distinguish the Shelby line of cars to help cut back on these clones. The only way to get said items is picture of the VIN, registration copy and some other form of ID that its an authentic shelby.
Edit: Im not going to complain though, if I land a cheap fastback and some dude wants to give me big $$$ for it.....

To each is own is fine, but I just don't see how everyone complains there are so many of them. I've been going to car shows here in Socal 15+ yrs and in 4yrs seen 7 different cars. This past Knott's show was the 1st time I have seen more than one at any show. This show if not familiar has around 2000+ cars all fords. One of the cars was the one from CVS that has been on the show tour for years. Of the other two one was a fastback and the other was a vert, and no restomods of a different color. I like most see them on Ebay all day everyday but yet to run across them in person. I agree the color sceem is rather redundent and to make it just like the movie car is not for me.
I just don't understand/get the out right hatred as most on here have a retomod of sorts anyways. From disc brakes,Rims Tires, R&P, New Gauges, Radio's, New Interior, Engine upgrades etc etc etc. I agree a restomod is not for everybody, but the majority of car guys like all the modern upgrades. It seems its only a small minority of the general public that dislikes the "Eleanor", due to the crazy demand it has. Its unfortunate that the majority of the minorty come from vintage forums such as this one. There are other yrs of stangs and cars for that matter that I don't care for, but I don't have a hatred towords them or there owners. When I'm at Mustang shows and see 12 stock FB relitivley all the same 4 reds, 3greens, 3 blacks, 1light blue, 1 misc. does nothing for me, but again I don't hate anyone for not making the car the way I like it.
Feel free to bag but here's some pics of the car I like most http://pg.photos.yahoo.com/ph/viking.../ph//my_photos

people 1965-68, for the most part 65-66, were chick cars the miata of the 60s. What us youngins what are 69 boss's and machs but baby boomers got them locked away forever to become trailor queens. so when the eleanor car came out we found out that we could make a 67 fb just as cool as our dream cars. As far as theres way to many out there Ive seen one im my life... and ive been to a few shows not as much as ppl with trailor queens but still. What i see is 50 year old women driving 65s coupes and never get to see 67-72s because there all locked away, theres a lot of baby boomers out theres you guys wayyyyy out number us on this one the only reason it looks like theres so many eleanors on the road is cuz the originals are all off the road.
I love all cars that go fast and look good i don't hate imports nor i do hate originals in anyway i love them but for me i don't wanna pull up to the same car that i have only theres some mom driving it [:'(] i want her to pull up with her duaghter and then burn some of my tires off cuz that puts a smile on your face. argue if u want i mean no disrespect.

so true. one is enough...the one true eleanor

yep the original 73 mach 1 eleanor. the good thing is its bringing tons of previously unavailable parts to the aftermarket. ex roof panels for fastbacks, full quarters theres nothing wrong with it unless its a rare car like a hipo. and all the changes are easily reversed
Well I guess you would have to call mine a gaudy restomod. I have tried to make something my own...with my own tastes that is distinctively different from others. Mine is not by any means an Eleanor clone either. That is a beautiful car, but I could not see myself trying to copy someone else's vision.
I can tell you this for sure...I park next to other 65-66's that are "restored" fastbacks, coupes, or convertables, and you can bet money that more people are going to stop and look at mine longer, ask more questions, and all around want to know more about it because it is a different look that people are interested in...I've seen it first hand!

I thought the Eleanor was pretty cool in "Gone In 60 Seconds" but I'm tired of them now. My car is going to be a restomod but it will be to my own specs with its own look. IMO restomods are sweet but they must be done in a way so that the car can be restored back to numbers matching if anyone chooses.
I agree. All these potentially beautiful 67/68 fastbacks are being swept up by some big companies and restored completely....but to an "eleanor". I was hoping to get a 68 fastback for my frist car, but I couldn't find one at a reasonable price because they are all being eleanorized. It drove me crazy. But now I am very happy with my 1969 Mach 1
If it wasn't for Gone in 60 Seconds, none of this would have happend. I like the movie a lot, but I never wanted it to lead to thousands of half-a$$ed eleanor conversions. I think the reason why rare car's are so beautiful is simply looks and the fact that they are RARE. Who knows, maybe we'll be able to pick an "Eleanor" up off the street for much cheaper after every single fastback is converted. I hope to god I don't see that day
